Devotional thought
Do you know the unspeakable joy of knowing the Savior who came this world? It is an amazing feeling that is hard to express! It truly is an overflowing well that no tongue can tell.
Although there is a mention in the first phrase that the Lord IS COME, I find it interesting that this old Hymn of Joy caught on so much for Christmas. It mostly speaks of the Second Coming of Christ more than the Incarnation of Jesus. Christ’s return to rule and reign, not allowing sin to reign, creation singing it’s praises, and so on are the overall emphasis of this song. There is no mention of the Babe in a manger, or Shepherds in a field, Angels, or Wise Men.
So, how can this be a Christmas song that gets sung maybe more than any other? Because, Jesus’ arrival on this Earth brought with it joy for all who will believe! Because of the saving work of Jesus our King, there is Joy to the World indeed!
Now, it is up to all to receive their King and the joy that He brings! We must prepare room in our heart for the One who came once, and is returning again one day to establish His ultimate rule forever! Let heaven and nature sing the songs of rejoicing and declarations of praise at the revelation of God’s love shown in Christ Jesus!
Have you seen the glories of His righteousness and the wonders of His love in your life? If so, you understand what Peter was saying in 1 Pet 1:8 when he said that we are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy! Respond by singing and lifting up your praises to God at all times!
If you do not know this salvation and love in your life, I will encourage you to call upon the name of Jesus Christ even now to save you and reveal Himself to you. There is no greater feeling in the world than to personally know the love that showed up 2000+ years ago, and the security of knowing that when He returns to establish His eternal Kingdom one day we will be with Him there forever! Please, do not wait. Receive your King today, and Rejoice!!
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I praise You so much for the joy that you have given me through Jesus! I am grateful that You sent my Savior into this world to save me and free me from sin’s grip on my life. I also give You thanks for the promise that I will be with You forever in Heaven when You return to gather Your children home. I love You Lord, and I join together with all of creation now in singing Your praises forever! In Jesus’ name. Amen
