Who gave you your personality? #biblestudy #spiritualgrowth

Let’s think about who we are. How do you touch that? Explain it? Sure, you’re a certain size. Your eyes and hair are a certain color. Your toes…well, they’re your toes. However, your stature, height, eye color, athletic ability or lack thereof is NOT who you are. What you do is driven by who you are and here we encounter the hand and design of God.

Who gave you the personality you have? It’s a mystery in so many ways. Whether outgoing or quiet. Whether funny or serious. Whether high energy or low energy? There’s part of you that you certainly didn’t determine. It’s personality and soul. And for some purpose God made you to be distinctly you.

He made our “inmost” being which is a word that means kidney. It came to refer to that internal part of a person – the deepest part. There is something inside us in the heart region that is who we are. It’s different and deeper than what you see on the surface. Who we are is because of God and His touch in our lives. CHALLENGE: Be Grateful for God’s Work in Your Life

A. BE GRATEFUL THAT GOD IS SOVEREIGN

VV13-18 – For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.16 Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.17 How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them!18 Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand—when I awake, I am still with you.

1. He’s Sovereign Over Who You Are

V13 – For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

2. God is Sovereign Over What You Are

V14 – I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful,.

3. God is Sovereign Over ALL Details

V15 – My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.

4. God Is Sovereign Over Our Days

V16 – Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book.

1 Corinthians 4:7 – For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?

Vv17-18 – How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them!.

James 1:17 – Every good and perfect gift is from above,.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 – He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

He Sees You #biblestudy #spiritualgrowth

Even night is light. Even in the dark, God’s light is there. He illuminates and encourages. So what’s scary and uncertain to us, is not to God. We are never out of His sight. God never loses track of where we are and that’s awesome to know as well.

In the darkest time, God can still see. You think of how much is hidden by the darkness. It is, but not what God is involved. It seems to me that it’s good to remember that what’s a problem to us is not a problem for God.

If I’m out at night looking for wood to build a fire, I need a flashlight. I just need light shining on the area so I have the help that I need. God can always see us.

Never Alone

Pastors Bill and Mark discuss never being along. God is always there.

Sometimes we feel like we’re the only moral person left on the planet. The only one doing the right
thing.

And why does he feel this way? He’s single in his focus. He’s only looking at what Jezebel is doing and what the threats are. So because of what a person says, he’s all forlorn.

1 Kings 19:10-11 – He replied, “I have been very zealous for the LORD God Almighty. The
Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death
with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.”
11 The LORD said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is
about to pass by. 14 He replied, “I have been very zealous for the LORD God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.” 18 Yet I reserve seven thousand in Israel—all whose knees have not bowed down to Baal and whose mouths have not kissed him.” He did face the prophets of Baal alone. He was the one who took it on the chin. His life was threatened by Jezebel. But he wasn’t alone. So many other prophets had been killed by Jezebel. Others were in hiding.

It was so dangerous.

Are we alone?
