Breaking Bad Patterns

Pastor Bill and Jeri McMinn discuss breaking bad patterns. Sometimes we get into bad patterns of living. Some of no fault of our own. There’s just more to do than you can do. Other times we’re directly responsible for the situation we’re in.

Thank about Daniel who prayed three times a day! That was a pattern!

There is a discipline to living.

The Impossible

READ: Exodus 2:1

CHALLENGE: Keep Hoping No Matter How Big the Problem

V22 – Then Pharaoh gave this order to all his people: “Every Hebrew boy that is born you must throw into the Nile, but let every girl live.”

A.KNOW YOUR “NO”.

Vv1-2 – Now a man of the tribe of Levi married a Levite woman, 2 and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him for three months.

B.DO THE NEXT BEST THING YOU CAN DO

Vv3-4 – But when she could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus basket[a] for him and coated it with tar and pitch. Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile. 4 His sister stood at a distance to see what would happen to him.

1.Don’t Panic
2.Do the Best Thing You Can Do

C.HOPE IN GOD TO DO THE IMPOSSIBLE

Vv5-6 – Then Pharaoh’s daughter went down to the Nile to bathe, and her attendants were walking along the riverbank. She saw the basket among the reeds and sent her female slave to get it. 6 She opened it and saw the baby. He was crying, and she felt sorry for him. “This is one of the Hebrew babies,” she said.

1.Pharoah’s Daughter Has Pity on Moses
2.Moses’ Mother Gets to Raise Him

Vv7-10 – Then his sister asked Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and get one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you?”8 “Yes, go,” she answered. So the girl went and got the baby’s mother. 9 Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this baby and nurse him for me, and I will pay you.” So the woman took the baby and nursed him. 10 When the child grew older, she took him to Pharaoh’s daughter and he became her son. She named him Moses,[b] saying, “I drew him out of the water.”

Our Relationship with the Government

Pastor Bill and Jeri McMinn discuss our relationship with the government.
-Government makes laws
-We submit to the rules
-Freedom doesn’t mean no rules

Romans 13:1-5 – Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.
