A Team Divided Can’t Stand! #unity #divided #biblestudy

It can be so disappointing to watch a team not work together! Multiple reasons can cause a team to fall apart. When a team falls apart, eventually it loses. It can cause division. When you have division, you do not have unity.

Being Proactive Not Reactive

Pastor Bill and Bethany discuss being proactive and not reactive with your feelings/emotions. Don’t be owned by your feelings/emotions. Jesus was hurting on the cross but he did what was right. 1 Peter 2:23 – When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.

Unity – John 17:20-23

Scripture: John 17:20-23
Unity

1. Unity results in us being “like-minded”.
2. Second, Unity results in “having the same love
3. Unity results in “being one in spirit and of one mind” is to have the same common goals at heart.
Phil 1:27 “..I will know that you stand firm in the one spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel…”
UNITY IS A REFLECTION OF THE TRINTIY As John writes in his gospel, he reminds us that Jesus and God are one. Jesus, referred to as “The Word”, and the Word was with God and the word was God. He was with God in the beginning” (John 1:1-2)
To paraphrase James 1:22-25 “Don’t just listen to the word. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and then forgets what they look like once they walk away.” Knowing the truth is one thing. Acting on it is another.
In v.21 he says “May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” Our unity with Christ, will be evident to the world around us
1. the world will know The Father sent his son, Jesus and
2. The world will know that He loves them. Our unity will result in being one in spirit and of one mind striving for the faith of the Gospel.
John 15 :5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.” Be united to the Spirit. Walk in step with the spirit. Pray. Read. Worship. Know God’s word and live it out. Bear good fruit. Be united with other believers. Be involved. Serve. Give. May we experience such perfect unity that the world see God in us. Close in Prayer.

Handling Emotions

Pastor Bill and Bethany discuss handling emotions. Emotions are given by God, part of humanity and they range. They make us Human. My fear is that without a handle on our “emotions”, we get off the path.  Enjoy.

Thriving – John 7:37

READ: John 7:37
CHALLENGE: Thrive with Jesus
A. HEAR THE INVITATION
John 7:37 – On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink.
1. The Invitation Is to the Thirsty
2. The Invitation is Bold
3. The Invitation is for Salvation
Come to me and drink! One of the verses they read every Feast of Tabernacles was Isaiah 12:3 – “With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation”.
Matthew 11:28-29 – “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls..”
B. SIMPLY BELIEVE IN JESUS
V38 – Whoever believes.”
1. Believe in Jesus
John 3:16 – For God so loved It’s whosoever believes! They have eternal life.
2. Believe in Scripture
Psalm 78:15-16 – He split the rocks in the wilderness and gave them water as abundant as the seas;.
C. PROMISE …. rivers of living water.
”39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified. The waters are the Holy Spirit which is granted to believers through faith. After the resurrection, Jesus sent the Holy Spirit and this is a game-changer for Christians. Belief led to Holy Spirit indwelling.
1. Power Rivers will flow.
2. Life Rivers of living water.
Galatians 5:22-23 – But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
3. Internal Strength
Isaiah 44:3 – For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground;I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring,. And just like the dry land needed water, we need the Spirit in our lives. And the Holy Spirit is a river of water flowing from within. What an impact! This is a change from within. The best kind of changes come from within your heart. And the nice thing about within is that no one can touch it. Nothing changes it! If you hit a crisis and you panic, then you’re panicky from the inside out. If you hit a crisis and you’re calm, you’re calm. Inside out! The outside world does not mold internal life.
Ezekiel 47:8-9 – He said to me, “This water flows toward the eastern region and goes down into the Arabah, 9 Swarms of living creatures will live wherever the river flows. There will be large numbers of fish, because this water flows there and makes the salt water fresh; so where the river flows everything will live. Salt water will become fresh. There is a true change here because of the Holy Spirit.
