Where Is God?

READ: Jeremiah 2
CHALLENGE: Stay in Line with God
A.WHAT ARE YOU SEEKING?
V5 – This is what the Lord says: that they strayed so far from me? They followed worthless idols and became worthless themselves.
· Are We Checking Our Thoughts About God?
· Are We Drifting from Our Spiritual Connection with God?
· Are We Prioritizing the Things that Don’t Matter, Rather Than God?
B. DO WE SEARCH ANSWERS FROM GOD?
V6 – They did not ask, ‘Where is the Lord, who brought us up out of Egypt?
V7 – I brought you into a fertile landto eat its fruit and rich produce. But you came and defiled my land.
V8 – The priests did not ask,‘Where is the Lord?’.
C. DO WE GIVE UP BETTER THINGS FOR LESSER THINGS?
V8b –
Does not profit you. There’s no gain. In other words – it’s not helping you. It does you no good to go in the direction you’re going.
V11 – Has a nation ever changed its gods?(Yet they are not gods at all.).
V13 – “My people have committed two sins:They have forsaken me,
and have dug their own cisterns, water
V19 – Your wickedness will punish you;your backsliding will rebuke you..
Where is God? Where is God in all of this. God is calling you back.

Develop Good Friendships

READ: Proverbs 27:6
CHALLENGE: Develop Good Friendships
What is the responsibility of friendship? Let’s look at Proverbs 27 and
A. FRIENDS TELL THE TRUTH
Proverbs 27:6 – Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.
1. Truth Hurts
James 5:19-20 – My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, 20 remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.
2. Truth Comes from Love
Ephesians 4:15 – Instead, speaking the truth in love,.
Jesus said it’s the truth that sets you free. And we have to crave it in order to receive it well. You have to be open to it. You look at the great prophets and they were not here to tickle your ears. Micah 2:11 – If a liar and deceiver comes and says, ‘I will prophesy for you plenty of wine and beer,’that would be just the prophet for this people!
2 Timothy 4:2-4 – For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.
3. Truth Comes from Trusted Friends
B. FRIENDS ARE ADVISORS
V9 – Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart, and the pleasantness of a friend.
C. FRIENDS INSPIRE YOU (V17)
V17 – As iron sharpens iron so one friend sharpens another. We make each other better.

Word Count | James 3

READ: James 3
CHALLENGE: Watch What You Say
James 1:19 – My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,
A. CONTROL YOUR WORDS
Vv1-4 – Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. 2 We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check.
3 When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. 4 Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go.
James 1:26 – Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.
B. AVOID STARTING FIRES (vv5-6)
James 3:5-6 – Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.
1. Avoid Damaging Words
2. Avoid Angry Words
3. Avoid Lies
4. Avoid Demented Words
Ephesians 5:3-4 – But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. 4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.
5. Avoid Gossip
Remember, Satan cannot use you as an arrow in his bow to shoot at someone else if you’re not yapping. And no one will hear what you said about someone if you didn’t say it in the first place!
C. FILTER IT
VV7-8 – All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, 8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
Proverbs 12:18 – The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
Proverbs 10:19 – When there are many words, sin is unavoidable, but the one who controls his lips is prudent.
Vv9-12 – With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. 11 Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? 12 My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.
Ephesians 4:29 – Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
Filter your words!
