If you’ve ever stood among the stars on a dark night, and taken in the vastness of His Creation, you may have felt small. Maybe even insignificant.
The psalmist had the same experience – being overwhelmed by the vastness of God and His Creation. “When I consider Your heavens”, he writes. His gaze at Heaven brings him to a place of reflection and pause.
As followers of Christ, we certainly should be impressed by God’s Creation. In fact, we are reminded in Romans 1 that “since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – His eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen”. Nature points us to God, and serves as general revelation to all people everywhere of the existence of God. Nature reminds us of God, but nature is NOT God. Nature rightly reminds us that God has set “eternity on the human heart” (Ecclesiastes 3:11), causing us to cry out to an unseen God.
As we observe the crashing waves and the vastness of the oceans, we likely feel really small. And yet, the paradox is this: as small as we are, we are also incredibly valuable. Nature serves as a readily accessible tool to keep life in perspective.
The psalmist concludes that this massive Creator God is both “mindful” and “caring” to each of us as individuals. He is both big and Small. He is both Vast and Near. He is both Mighty and Intimate. A proper view of God holds these extremes in tension.
Prayer:
Dear God, You are the God who created the vastness of the Universe, and also the God who cares about the small details of my life. Help me see You as You truly are, all the days of my life. Amen.
Reflection Questions:
How might you need to shift your view of God today?
Scripture Reading
Psalm 8:1-4
You have set your glory
in the heavens. Through the praise of children and infants you have established a strongholdagainst your enemies, to silence the foeand the avenger. When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?

I praise God that he is so big he can do anything and created everything including the flowers in the woods that no one ever sees. That reminds me that he cares about all of the small details… even ours ❤️
It is a daily reminder every morning when I get into my prayer and Bible reading that the same God who created the Universe is the same God who wants to spend time with me. It’s awesome that he is within us and everywhere around us outside of us. The paradox gives me comfort today instead of questions. The vastness and unknowable nature of God is awesome! Somehow the more I learn the less I truely understand and that is okay with me.
I have struggled with self worth my whole life and in this season of life I am working on what the Bible and my God says. I am praying to accept that I am valuable and loved by my Father God. The creator. I am also trying to build a more intimate relationship with my Heavenly Father. I love how he uses Bible studies and scripture to speak to me. Have a blessed day everyone ❤️🙏😇
Once again a beautiful reminder I am loved, I am enough and I serve an awesome God who actually wants to spend time with me daily and loves me inspire of all my flaws. As someone who has struggled with self worth each day this series reminds me to focus on what God wants of me and that I am always enough.
I seem to be the go to person when people have problems and I find that very overwhelming at times. I’m trying to find peace of mind thru God to be a better person but also to try and find inner peace within .myself.
Another of my favorite lines in Scripture. “Who is man that that you are mindful of him, mankind that you care for them?” Makes me think of the song. “Who am I that you are thinking of me that you love me? Is it true that you are thinking of me? I am a friend of God. You call me friend.”
