Devotional thought

I don’t know of anyone that likes to wait! It is so against our nature to wait. We want things immediately, and most of us definitely do not like surprises. Anticipation is a hard thing to deal with in a get it done now, immediate gratification culture.

The Bible tells us that there is benefits to waiting on the Lord though! Waiting is a faith building exercise. It strengthens our inner “man” and helps us to build persevering strength. Isa 41:31 tells us that those who wait on the Lord renew their strength! I don’t know about you, but I would love my strength to be renewed!

But, waiting is not doing nothing! It is seeking, and being alert. Waiting demands participation from the person who is expecting a response from the Lord. Faith is required and pursuit is the right action for anyone who is actively waiting upon the Lord!

It isn’t a time for a spiritual nap. On the contrary, waiting is a time for an increased sense of alertness from us! The Lord tells us to seek His face, and seeking Him requires attention, pursuit, and longing! Unfortunately, many of us offer a quick prayer for something and walk away forgetting what we prayed. That is evidenced by how quickly we turn to lesser things for temporary solutions to our problems.

We need to learn to pray and wait, expectantly, for the Lord’s answer, deliverance, and Word to instruct us on how to proceed! Waiting is equal to faith, and faith is being sure of what we hope (wait) for. So, pray and seek the Lord today, but be ready to enjoy the experience of waiting for Him to answer!

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, I praise You that Your promises are sure. I am sorry for any times that I run ahead of You, Lord. I appreciate the fact that You are patient, and I ask that You teach me to wait patiently upon You, Lord. In Jesus’ Name. Amen
